the name borderline came about because at the time of conceptualization of bpd the symptons exhibited were in between the borders of neurosis and psychosis(severe mental disorder where ontact is lost with reality.

1-frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment
2-a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation-called splitting
3-identity disturbance markedly and persistently unstable self image or sense of self
5-recurrent suicidal behaviour
7-chronic feelings of emptiness
8-inapropiate,intense anger or difficulty controlling anger(frquent displays of temper which may be verbal or physical
