NHS pensions dispute

New Council chair Mark Porter has been meeting key stakeholders in preparation for Council’s meeting on 18 July when decisions will be taken on next steps on NHS pensions.

Member and public research will also help inform Council’s deliberations

Doctors across the UK took industrial action on 21 June in response to major changes to the NHS pension scheme. 

The BMA called the action reluctantly, following a big turnout and overwhelming ‘yes’ vote in a ballot of members.

It was the first industrial action doctors have taken in almost 40 years. Planning with managers indicated that at least four in every five NHS employers in secondary care across the UK postponed some non-urgent cases on the day. Read our statement
